What is a power chord!?

Some of my students who use Rockshool and Yousician have been learning power chords and how to play them. Acoustic Guitar Grade 1 in Rockschool has the song 'Come As You Are' by Nirvana as the first song. In the song we see the power chords F#5, A5, B5 and D5. All these chords use the same formula which can be explained using a little basic music theory. Check out this great article from Fender that explains what makes a '5' power chord!
