How to Tune Your Guitar Using a Piano 'E' Note
Updated: Oct 13, 2020
So previously I talked about Relative Tuning and how to tune your guitar so that at least it sounds in tune when you play a chord. However, if you want to play along to all your favourite songs on YouTube or Spotify, then you will need to tune your guitar using a piano or app to get it in 'Standard Tuning' which is EADGBE (you can remember this using the sentence Eddie Ate Dynamite Good Bye Eddie). If you'd like to find out more about where Standard Tuning came from click this link: https://www.fender.com/articles/tech-talk/standard-tuning-how-eadgbe-came-to-be
So if you have a piano that can give you a note to start with, then instead of tuning the guitar to whatever note the sixth string is at, you can now tune the guitar to the correct piano pitch using the E note. This means that if a song on YouTube is played in the key of G, then, when you play the G chord on your guitar it will be in tune with the YouTube song.
